
The problem with an over the top, unbelievable set-up in a play is that when a layer of emotional ‘reality’ is superimposed over the ludicrous it can come across as manipulative.


Propaganda is full of darkness, absurdity and beautifully wry theatricality, revealing tenderness and intimacy at its core.

‘Laughter is the best medicine’ proclaims the subtitle of Cosi, the latest touring show by HIT Productions and Monday Night at St. Martins Theatre certainly proved there was to be no shortage of guffaws, giggles and hearty explosions.

The energy that these accomplished musicians brought to their dark, modern blues-rock proved that combining enthusiasm and yes, a fair amount of freakish talent is a recipe for a rocking, crowd-pleasing show.

We’re brought to care most skillfully by a stunning level of performance, a rare thrill in theatre.

Despite how much most of the audience tried to be amused, it clearly wasn't happening as we sat through one tired, obvious reference after another.
