Calling all Australian writers... the deadline for submissions to the 2013 Griffin Award is 4pm Tuesday 1st January 2013! That's right, New Year's Day - let Griffin help tick your first resolution for 2013.

The Griffin Award is an annual $10,000 prize offered for an outstanding new Australian play. In addition to the main award, all shortlisted playwrights receive $1,000 each.

As a company we are looking for plays to go on our Griffin stage at the SBW Stables Theatre.

Griffin is calling for submissions of original plays or performance texts to be assessed and shortlisted by the Griffin Resident Artists, to be put before a judging panel of industry leaders to select a winner.

At the Griffin Festival of New Writing, selections from all shortlisted plays will be read in the theatre and the winner will then be announced. The Festival of New Writing is in June 2013.

Conditions of Entry:

Playwrights may submit only one (1) play for consideration.

To be eligible plays must be:
  • At least 60 minutes in length
  • Unproduced and unpublished
  • Unencumbered by agreements for future production or publication
  • Not previously submitted for the Griffin Award
  • Playwrights must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia
  • The decision of the judging panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into
  • The work must be submitted to Griffin Theatre Company via e-mail only. Plays must be in a pdf. format and must arrive electronically no later than 4pm Tuesday 1st January 2013 to the following address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • Griffin shall have world-wide first right of refusal to produce the winning play for a period of 12 months following announcement of the winner
  • Plays or performance texts submitted may be original ideas or adaptations from other forms
