A composer currently completing a Doctorate of Music an Indiana University Bloomington in the USA and a former electronics engineering student have taken top honours in this year's competition. 

Melody Eotvos from Victoria with her composition The King in Yellow and runner-up Sebastian Phlox from South Australia with Total Internal Reflection were awarded $5,000 and $2,000, respectively, for the future commission of new works to be premiered by the Soundstream Collective in 2013. 

The Soundstream Young Compoers' Award concert showcasing the works of Melody Eotvos from Victoria, Sebastian Phlox and Melisande Wright from South Australia, Daniel Manera from New South Wales and Nicole Murphy from Queensland will be broadcast on ABC Classic FM's New Music Up Late program on Saturday 20 October from 10:30pm.
