The application process for Midsumma registered events is now open.

Each year, over one hundred events occur throughout Festival, showcasing the talent, personalities and heart of Melbourneʼs queer community. Events range from theatre to spoken word, performing arts, film, live music, sporting activities, social forums and nightlife. Midsumma is open to all platforms of art and celebrations of culture.

Registration fees for events interested in being part of Festival will remain the same as in 2011. To streamline communications, Midsumma will no longer be utilising the terms and processes associated with venue ʻhubsʼ. Instead ʻPremier Eventsʼ will be seen as examples of the best of festival, following one of Midsummaʼs main objectives over the last year to continuously improve artistic and curatorial rationale and quality. Please see www.midsumma.org.au for further details of all the new developments, including Midsummaʼs new official process for submitting Premier Event proposals.

2012 will see a noticeable push towards online marketing with the highly successful iPhone app ʻMidsumma12ʼ returning and www.midsumma.org.au being utilised to itʼs full capacity, in terms of ticketing, marketing and a ʻone stop shopʼ for Festival. Midsumma will ensure print support through a fantastic new large poster style Festival Planner, which will be distributed in higher numbers than any previous festival marketing collateral. Also new media partnerships are currently under discussion with a number of media organisations, while JPPR Pty Ltd will take on the role of Festival Publicist.

A ʻMidsumma Arts and Event Development Forumʼ is an additional resource offered to event producers, where event registrants and artists will have the chance to access the experience and skill of Midsumma staff and industry professionals in the areas of marketing and publicity, grant writing, producing your own event, ticketing, production requirements, visual art exhibitions, venue information and general Q&A in relation to registering an event with Midsumma. The ʻMidsumma Forumʼ will be held at Hares and Hyenas, 63 Johnston Street Fitzroy on Sunday 31 July. Come along for a coffee and a chat before the forum begins at 11.30. We will finish at 3.30 with time for a drink and one-on-one questions afterwards.
