Live Performance Australia (LPA) have announced the List of Nominations in each of the 41 categories for the 2011 Helpmann Awards®. The announcement was made concurrently in Sydney with MC Jonathan Biggins, and in Melbourne with MC Todd McKenney.

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell congratulated the nominees of the 2011 Helpmann Awards® and said Sydney is proud to host this prestigious Australian event for the 11th year in succession.

“The Helpmanns are the premier awards event for the Australian performing arts and live entertainment industry, and celebrate the significant contribution the sector makes to the NSW and Australian community.

“Our investment in the 2011 Helpmann Awards re-affirms the NSW Government’s commitment to the creative industries and further strengthens Sydney’s re-emergence as Australia’s live performance capital,” Mr O’Farrell said.

Kathryn Sadler, Chair of the Brian Stacey Memorial Trust, announced that Trevor Jones and James Pratt are the joint winners of the Brian Stacey Award for Emerging Australian Conductors, each to receive a $3,500 prize. This will be the 14th year that this Award is presented.

The 2011 Helpmann Awards® Ceremony will be held on Monday 1 August at 8pm at Opera Theatre, Sydney Opera House, and will include performances by the casts of Dr Zhivago, Hairspray, Mary Poppins and Rock of Ages; Ben Lewis (The Phantom) from Love Never Dies, Slava and Leonard Grigoryan, Expressions Dance Theatre from Brisbane, STOMP, and the Opera Australia Chorus, amongst others.
