Submissions are now open for State Theatre Company’s 2011 Young Playwrights Award.

Sponsored by Flinders University, the Young Playwrights Award (formerly Young Guns) is now in its twelfth year and supports aspiring young South Australian playwrights aged up to twenty five years.

All scripts must be one act, original work and not previously performed or published, and must be received by Wednesday 1 June. Entrants must also be available from 25 – 29 July.

Two winners will be selected by the judging panel, with each winner receiving a week’s script development with State Theatre Company Associate Director Catherine Fitzgerald. A cast of professional actors will then perform each play at a staged reading.

The winners will also each receive a $500 cash prize and a 3 play subscription to the State Theatre Company’s 2011 season.

Artistic Director Adam Cook said: “What could be more exciting than to discover how young people portray our world? I look forward to the results of their passionate, curious journeying through imaginary landscapes, and to seeing where they might take us!”

Entry forms and conditions are available on the State Theatre Company website at www.statetheatrecompany.com.au.
