Steamworks Artistic Director Sally Richardson has been selected as Australia’s dramaturg representative for the 11th New Visions / New Voices Festival held in May 2010 at The John. F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC.

New Visions / New Voices is a week-long biennale festival for plays-in-progress written for young audiences and families. Over one hundred international theatre artists, playwrights, composers, and directors will spend five days re-working and re-writing new plays and musicals with a selection of theatre expertise.

Richardson has been chosen as one of two artists who will workshop and provide dramaturgical advice for over seven international theatre companies whose works will be presented at the end of the festival.

According to Richardson, the fellowship is a really unique international opportunity for a WA artist. “I am thrilled to be selected as dramaturg for this unique festival and to be visiting such a major international performing arts venue such as the Kennedy center. Theatre artists, directors, writers and creators will be participating from around the world, and if offers a unique once in a lifetime experience for me” said Richardson.

This international development initiative is supported by The Australia Council Theatre Board in partnership with the John.F.Kennedy Center.
