The Australian cast has been announced for the upcoming national tour of the Tony Award winning Best Musical AVENUE Q.

AVENUE Q will feature a stellar cast including:

Mitchell Butel (The Venetian Twins, Hair, Dusty, Grease, Little Shop of Horrors) as Princeton and Rod
Michala Banas (McLoed’s Daughters, Good Guys, Bad Guys, Blue Heelers) as Kate Monster and Lucy T Slut
Natalie Alexopoulos as Mrs Thistletwat
David James as Brian
Luke Joslin as Nicky and Trekkie Monster
Christina O’Neill as Christmas Eve
Cherine Peck as Gary Coleman

Ensemble cast members include Frank Hansen, Leah Howard, Josie Lane and Gus Murray.

Directed by Jonathan Biggins, AVENUE Q features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and book by Jeff Whitty. The creative team includes David Skelton as Musical Director, Choreography by Nathan Wright, Set and Costume design by Richard Roberts, Lighting Design by Richard Pacholski, and Sue Giles from Melbourne’s own Polyglot Puppetry Theatre to provide expert training to the actors.

Cross Sesame Street with the Muppet Show and give it an X rating and you’ve got AVENUE Q. The show features full puppet nudity and songs like Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist, The Internet Is For Porn and If You Were Gay.

AVENUE Q will have its Australian premiere at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne on 4 June 2009 and will then tour to Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Wellington and Auckland.
