Would-be opera singers are invited to be a star this Christmas at Victorian Opera’s Sing Your Own Opera: Messiah at BMW Edge, Federation Square from 2:30pm Saturday, December 20.

Sing Your Own Opera: Messiah is an opportunity for modest mezzo sopranos and bashful basses to step into the spotlight and sing in Christmas with one of the festive season’s all-time favourites, Handel’s Messiah.

“If you love all things Christmas, then come along and have some fun learning to sing this much-loved work which includes the fabulous Hallelujah chorus,” said Victorian Opera Music Director Richard Gill.  “This is your opportunity to put some oomph into Christmas!”

Participants will spend an afternoon learning their parts with Victorian Opera Music Director Richard Gill and Head of Music David McSkimming, assisted by Victorian Opera Developing Artists Melanie Adams and Anthony Mackey.

At 6pm, after dinner, they return to perform the work accompanied by Orchestra Victoria.

Music is provided on the day but an ability to read it is not essential to participate.  Music scores are available for collection from Horti Hall, 31 Victoria Street, Melbourne on Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th December, between 11am and 4pm for those wanting to get their vocal chords into shape ahead of the big event.
