For those who missed out on a ticket to Melbourne's sell-out season of Graeme Murphy's Swan Lake, head down to Federation Square on Wednesday 9 April at 7:25pm to watch The Australian Ballet perform the smash-hit production live via satellite from the Sydney Opera House to the big screen.

In a groundbreaking partnership between ABC2, the Australian Film Commission (AFC), The Australian Ballet and the Australia Council for the Arts, audiences across the country will also view this spectacular arts event on ABC2 Live and Australian Film Commission's (AFC) Regional Digital Screen Network (RDSN). Port Augusta, Yarram, Hervey Bay, Devonport, Katherine, Wagga Wagga, Singleton and Albany's local cinemas will screen Swan Lake live at free, ticketed events.

Starring Principal Artists Kirsty Martin, Damien Welch and Olivia Bell, ABC2 will capture the excitement of the event at stage level with cameras positioned amongst the audience. During intermission, interviews with choreographers Graeme Murphy and the dancers will be broadcasted.

This screening will be the first performance in a series of live events on ABC2 in 2008 and will successfully launch ABC2 as a place where live performance on TV happens.

Swan Lake is an iconic ballet and Graeme Murphy’s choreography dramatically communicates the emotion of betrayal and unrequited love. This production has earned international critical and audience acclaim in London, Cardiff, Shanghai and Tokyo resulting in The Australian Ballet receiving the 2005 UK Critics’ Circle Award for Best Foreign Dance Company. Additional awards include four Helpmann Awards (2003), four Green Room Awards (2003) and the 2003 Mo Award.

Swan Lake will debut in Paris and Manchester later this year.
