Applications are now open for the South Australian Youth Arts Board biannual Project and Development grants. Grants are available to artists aged 26 and under, creating original art and also available if you are working creatively with children or young people.
Grants can be used to develop an idea, create new work or participate in professional
development. Young people and (or) community organisations from regional areas and
Indigenous young people are encouraged to apply. Young writers are also encouraged to apply.
SAYAB’s Project and Development Grant program encourages exciting youth arts activity of a high standard in the areas of dance, film/video, music, new writing, theatre, visual arts and cross arts.
In the last round of grants, $54,969 was allocated to 14 individuals and organisations, all of which are conducting their projects in the first six months of 2008. Projects receiving grants in this round will take place from July-December 2008.
Recipient of a previous Project and Development Grant, Edwin Kemp said, "The Project
and Development grant was a huge benefit to ActNow Theatre for Social Change, and gave us an invaluable launching pad for our street theatre projects. SAYAB has been a huge help in developing the skills and experience of ActNow Theatre for Social Change and I've been able to develop my professional experience as a director, and work with a bunch of really talented artists. The whole process was extremely helpful in providing advice, funding and support to achieve my goals as a theatre director"
Artistic Director and CEO of Carclew Youth Arts, Jessica Machin said, “South Australian Youth Arts Board Project and Development grants can be a wonderful kick start to a young artists’ career. The scope of what a recipient can spend their grant on is very broad and young people have the opportunity to discuss their idea with SAYAB staff to best develop their application. These grants can also support community organisations in providing access to quality arts experiences for children and young people”
SAYAB Project and Development Grants are administered by Carclew Youth Arts and applications close at 5pm on Friday 28 March 2008. For guidelines and applications forms visit sayab.org.au .
