Entries are now open for Griffin Theatre Company’s 2008 Griffin Award. The Griffin Award is an annual $5000 prize offered for an outstanding new Australian play or performance text. The Griffin Award recognizes an outstanding play or performance text that displays an authentic, inventive and contemporary voice.
Now in its 11th year, the Griffin Award celebrates the bright future of Australian drama. More than 100 nominations were received from every state in 2007. Plays or performance texts submitted may be original ideas or adaptations from other forms.
Thanks to the generosity of Griffin's Principal Sponsor, PKF Chartered Accountants & Business Advisers, in addition to the cash prize, the winner of the 2008 Griffin Award will also receive a brand new laptop computer.
The 2007 Griffin Award winner was Damien Millar for Emergency Sex and Other Desperate Measures. Previous winners have included Brendan Cowell, Debra Oswald and Ian Wilding.
The Griffin Literary Office will assess the entries and prepare a shortlist that will be submitted to a judging panel of industry leaders to select the winner. The winner will be announced in August.
