Frustrated friends and relations across the country are appealing to amateur comedians to resist trying out their lines at family dinners, nights out with the girls/boys, on unsuspecting shop assistants, and as in one tragic case, at the dentist. Claiming they have been punished by puns and disgusted by “don’t-you-hate-it-when” gags for too long, they are urging all closet comedians to put their money where the mic is at Raw Comedy, Australia’s largest open mic comedy competition.

Thank God the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, with the support of Triple J is now calling for entries for the 2008 RAW Comedy competition! Undiscovered comic geniuses across the country have only a matter of weeks to sign themselves up for their chance to win the National Grand Final and first prize of a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

Lucky jokesters successful in their heats will progress through a series of semi and state finals, before slugging it out at the National Grand Final at the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The National Grand Champ wins a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe.
