The Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) is proud to announce the inaugural Australian visit of German oboist and conductor Hansjorg Schellenberger.

During his ten-day residency, the renowned international musician will give a Master Series Concert with Academy Pianist Timothy Young (Saturday 13 October at 8pm), direct a National Oboe weekend (13-15 October) and present a Fridays@3 talk titled 'Life in and out of orchestras' (Friday 19 October).

The residency culminates in a Bravo Series concert (Saturday October 20 at 8pm) which sees Schellenberger in the role of conductor with the ANAM orchestra. Schellenberger will direct the orchestra in a concert featuring a performance of ANAM Artistic Director, Brett Dean's award winning work Carlo

Hansjorg Schellenberger is one of the world's leading oboists. He joined the Berlin Philharmonic in 1977 under the helm of Herbert von Karajan and was appointed to the soloist position in 1980. He is founder and director of the Haydn Ensemble Berlin, a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Ensemble and the Ensemble Wien-Berlin. For many years, he has given master classes at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and at the Scuola di Musica in Fiesole. Schellenberger records for the major record labels including Deutsche Grammophon, Sony and Denon.

'Schellenerberger's versatile career as a director, musician and teacher makes him an exemplary role model for our ANAM musicians. He is an ideal guest, offering our musicians an insight into the many pathways open to a professional musician,' said Brett Dean (Artistic Director, ANAM).

On Saturday 13 at 8pm, Schellenberger collaborates with Timothy Young to present a program of music featuring CPE Bach, J.S Bach, Saint -Saens and Benjamin Britten. The National Masterclass (13-15 October) welcomes oboists from all over Australia. Oboists will converge at ANAM for an intensive weekend of music making, reed making and performances.

On Saturday 20 October at 8pm, Schellenberger conducts the ANAM orchestra in a concert of symphonies and sinfoniettas. Haydn's ebullient Symphony No.39 paves the way for Benjamin Britten's Sinfonietta and Brett Dean's Carlo before returning to the heights of classicism with Mozart's Symphony No. 38.
