Priscilla - The MusicalThe Divas and Priscilla - The Bus
Priscilla Queen of the Desert - The Musical this week launched its Melbourne season, which will open at the Regent Theatre on Saturday 6 October 2007.
This marks the next stop on its amazing journey - from the unexpected international success as a film in 1994, premiering as a lavish stage musical in Sydney in 2006, to celebrating its one-year anniversary in October 2007 in Melbourne.
Priscilla is an all-Australian production quite unlike any other - featuring 20 full-scale production numbers and a classic song list including I will survive, Finally and Shake your groove thing. Currently playing in Sydney, the musical has sold more than 340,000 tickets and taken in excess of $27 million at the box office.
Priscilla tells the funny and moving story of three fish out of water who head west across the desert from Sydney to Alice Springs to perform a drag show. In the driver's seat is Bernadette, the former Les Girls star, played by musical theatre veteran Tony Sheldon (The Producers). Taking on the role of Tick, who organises the desert adventure, is Jeremy Stanford (Buddy), and in charge of the bubbles is the flamboyant and unpredictable Adam, played by rising star Daniel Scott (Dusty). Keeping them all in check (and on the road) is down-to-earth Bob the mechanic, played by Australian screen icon Michael Caton.
Members of the team that created the worldwide smash-hit film, including writer and director Stephan Elliott, costume designers (and Academy Award winners) Lizzy Gardiner and Tim Chappel, make-up designer Cassie Hanlon, and producer Michael Hamlyn, are joined by writer Allan Scott and set designer Brian Thomson.
