Members of La Boite Theatre Company have elected two new members and re-elected the Deputy Chair to its Board at the Company’s Annual General Meeting on Monday night.

Matilda award-winning actor and playwright Elise Greig and Paul Makeham, Portfolio Director (Creative Writing / Drama / Film & TV) in the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT, and who has a background in professional theatre, were both elected to the Board.

Director of KD Public Relations, Kristin Devitt, who has served as a Board member for the past five years, was re-elected as Deputy Chair and David Ward retains his position as Treasurer.

Chair of La Boite Theatre Company and Roundhouse Theatre, Kent Maddock said the Board had achieved a strong balance of corporate and artistic experience.

“We have a strong mix of expertise to help La Boite Theatre Company consolidate the position the Company now enjoys, as one of the most financially stable and creatively viable in Australia,”
Mr Maddock said.

Mr Maddock acknowledged the contribution made by outgoing Board member Karen Crone. He also made tribute to Athol Young, the former Chair of La Boite Theatre Company, who decided not to nominate for the Board in 2007.

“Athol played a critical role in providing direction and purpose through the Board to the Company as Chair over ten years. La Boite Theatre Company is in a better position today because of Athol’s hard work and persistence.”

After a busy start to the year with 3 opening nights already, there are still 5 more shows to go in 2007. Rebecca Sparrow’s delightfully daggy take on the late 80s in The Year Nick McGowan Came To Stay; the stirring score and story of Red Cap - performed in both Mount Isa and Brisbane as part of the 2007 Queensland Music Festival; the moving drama of Ian Brown’s Walking By Apple Tree Creek - performed by one of Queensland’s most distinguished actors, Carol Burns; and Matthew Ryan’s eccentric electric comedy Wonderland; as well as the rough poetry of Linda Hassall's Post Office Rose, the final Roundhouse Theatre Presents event in 2007.
