Short & Sweet is back with $20,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs!

Entries are now open for the world’s biggest ten minute play festival, Short & Sweet, returning to the Victorian Arts Centre in late 2007. There’s $20,000 in prizes on offer, so if you have ever dreamed about writing a play and seeing it on stage at the Arts Centre, here is your chance! Submissions can be entered via theartscentre.net.au/shortandsweet and the only rule is that the play needs to be no longer then ten minutes long. Entries close 5pm on July 31, 2007.

There will also be opportunities for actors and directors to become involved later in the year so keep an eye on the website for more details.

“The 2006 Victorian Short and Sweet play festival was a huge success with over 815 entries received.  We are confident that the 2007 festival will involve some of the best writers, actors and directors Victoria has to offer and we look forward to taking the festival to the next level”
said Rob Gebert the Arts Centre Public Programs Manager.

The winning selection of plays will be presented in a season of 60 short-listed plays, which will be performed at the Arts Centre, Fairfax Studio between the 5-22 December. Throughout the season a panel of judges along with the audience will select the prize winners.

Along with the playwrights, several hundred actors and 60 Victorian directors will be involved with Short and Sweet, making it a key component of the Arts Centre's commitment to developing Victorian artists and performers. Short & Sweet builds on other supportive Arts Centre programs such as FULL TILT, MIX IT UP and the Wall Cherry Play of the Year award.
