Cash for being creative!
2007 sees the return of the Maj Monologues Competition - part of The Brainbox Project at His Majesty’s Theatre.
The competition: write a monologue with a projected performance duration of between eight and 15 minutes.
The prizes: Judges’ Choice award is $3,000. The Hawaiian People’s Choice award is $1,000.00
This year’s theme is SEVEN DEADLY SINS. Writers may choose to cover one or all in salacious detail – pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed and sloth. There’s plenty to get your teeth into here and there is no age limit for entrants! Entrants must be permanent residents of Western Australia to be eligible for consideration.
Original entries must be submitted with six identical hard copies to reach His Majesty’s Theatre, 825 Hay Street Perth, 6000, by 5pm on Friday 30 March 2007.
The names of the eight finalists will be announced in the week commencing Monday 16 April 2007, and each of the eight monologues will be performed live every night during the five-night Maj Monologues Finals season, DownStairs at the Maj. Prizes will be awarded following the final performance on Saturday 19 May 2007.
Launched in 2006, this year’s program by The Brainbox Project has been made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Hawaiian group.
“Sponsoring ‘Brainbox’ to the extent that we have is further evidence of Hawaiian’s absolute commitment to ensuring the theatre and the arts are always available to the broader community whilst at the same time nurturing and showcasing the vast array of talent WA has to offer” said Russell Gibbs, Hawaiian’s CEO.
“The Brainbox Project is an initiative to be extremely proud of. Not only is it the first “stage talent incubator” of its kind in WA but also, through opportunities such as the Maj Monologues Comptition, the depth of otherwise “hidden” talent in the form of local writers and directors can also be appreciated.”
