Simon Bower - Sometimes Give Up

8:15-9:15 p.m.

NEVER give up? Not even if it's hard? After quitting comedy for over five years, proud quitter Simon Bower returns to debunk this propaganda of persistence in cheeky, self-deprecating style.

In 2019, Simon Bower gave up performing stand-up comedy due to panic attacks and other mental health issues. After a period full of study, growth, a diagnosis or two, losing friends, finding love and learning to dress himself, he returns over five year later incredibly proud to be a quitter. Sometimes Give Up is a show about how giving up is (sometimes) the answer to all of your problems.

Simon Bower has delighted audiences in sold out shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Canberra Comedy Festival and Adelaide Fringe Festival, and his writing for popular comedy websites such as Hard Drive and Cracked has been viewed by millions around the world. Now, in his solo festival debut, Simon pokes fun at the hypocrisy of the hyper persistent: taking aim at steadfast stalwarts like Winston Churchill and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and pointing out how they were big ol' quitters too, whilst weaving in personal stories and observational comedy that he delivers with disarming honesty and a sly grin. Sometimes Give Up is a hilarious, earnest and maybe even inspiring hour of stand-up about how losers never quit, and quitters never lose.

Following the unedifying edict that "there's a sucker born every minute", the show skewers the modern self-improvement economy in a piss-take parody of today's 'gurus' and snake-oil salesmen.
