The Cardinal Rules

With original concept and story by Rose Maher and direction by Ali Gordon, this inventive eulogy mashes heartfelt personal storytelling with visually stunning physical theatre, inspired by Rose’s Catholic upbringing in Canberra circa 1997.

The Cardinal Rules explores the beauty and complexity of a tight knit community, indoctrinated into silence when their voices were needed the most.

With a dynamic ensemble cast led by actor, theatre-maker and clown Rose Maher, we are transported into the childhood delight of the mystery of church and the adult questioning of identity.

Touching and playful, this ambitious new work invites you into a conversation about the moments that shift our faith and perspective.

The Cardinal Rules is presented as part of MERRIGONGX’s Artist Program and has been supported by Shopfront Arts Co-Op’s Open Shop, HotHouse Theatre’s GreenHouse: National Artist Residency and The University of Sydney’s Theatre & Performance Studies Residency and Erth.

Uked! is a sing along, string along, immersive jukebox musical, that's more folksy balladeering than an all out, all that jazz razzmatazz.

Contradiction, conundrum, conflict, racism, misogyny and homophobia run through this play like a main circuit cable snaking through a moral minefield of explosive allegation.

Following the unedifying edict that "there's a sucker born every minute", the show skewers the modern self-improvement economy in a piss-take parody of today's 'gurus' and snake-oil salesmen.
