What's On

Haydn's Sunrise

Riverside Theatres is thrilled to present the spellbinding Haydn’s Sunrise by the Australian Haydn Ensemble on Sunday 9th March 2025.

Commencing their 2025 season with this special concert, the Australian Haydn Ensemble will present two wonderful quartets by Haydn (the master) and Beethoven (the pupil) that morph effortlessly from the lofty to the lowbrow. Then, Fanny Mendelssohn’s quartet, apparently the first ever composed by a woman, will offer an elegant, if far from ladylike, comeback.

Audiences will be swept away by these masterful works, each one embodying tenderness, tempestuous emotion, yearning love, fun and joy in equal measure.

The Australian Haydn Ensemble, under the direction of Artistic Director Skye McIntosh, is one of Australia’s leading historically informed orchestras and chamber music groups.

The ensemble brings together world-class musicians who excel in both modern and period instrument performance and are highly committed to both historical research and performance. The group’s repertoire is principally music of the late baroque and early classical era.
