What's On

AYO Momentum Ensemble “Fresh Beats & Brillance”

Internationally acclaimed percussionist Claire Edwardes OAM, a champion of the contemporary classical genre, leads Momentum Ensemble in a program of living, breathing music.

Australian artists are the centerpiece of this collaboration, with a world premiere by composer Alice Chance, and the inimitable Ross Edwards’ Laikan. From the culture and connection of works by Brenda Gifford to the earthy atmospheres of Mary Finsterer’s Silva, the diversity and innovation of Australia’s artistic voices bloom in these evocative works.

Paired with Molly Joyce’s exploration of creativity and disability in Lost & Found, and the luminous South Catalina by Chris Cerrone, this program is electric.

The script is based on a true story, although this dramatisation can feel somewhat contrived, with important assertions not interrogated, and credibility stretched as a result.

This Glass Menagerie is top shelf, and while blessed with an extraordinary cast and the highest of production values, it will not meet with everyone’s measure of how this play should be staged.
