Nana's Naughty Knickers

A hilarious romp in New York City that will have you in stitches of laughter.

Written by Katherine DiSavino - Directed by Barry Hill OAM

Nana Sylvia Charles has lived in her rent-controlled New York apartment for years, much to the chagrin of her landlord Gil. For the last few years, she's managed to hide the illegal boutique in her apartment, selling handmade naughty knickers to every senior citizen in the five-borough area, from everyone but her customers.

But her granddaughter and future law student, Bridget, discovers the side-hustle, and a hilarious chain of events occurs as a mixup in the delivery of stock occurs and Bridget tries to hide the enterprise from the landlord and her hapless but infatuated friend, Tom, the cop. Will her nana get arrested – or worse – evicted?

Come to Nana’s Naughty Knickers and see if her underwear can “fire men up for a price that won’t burn a hole in your wallet!”

The script is based on a true story, although this dramatisation can feel somewhat contrived, with important assertions not interrogated, and credibility stretched as a result.

This Glass Menagerie is top shelf, and while blessed with an extraordinary cast and the highest of production values, it will not meet with everyone’s measure of how this play should be staged.

In the care of Pinchgut Opera’s director, Erin Helyard, this music, formulaic as it indeed is in some respects, sprang off the page into an experience rich in emotions.

There is a lot to love about this show; the cast are strong, and the onstage band who interact in the main diner setting is a fun touch.
