| Little Women: The Broadway Musical | | |
| |
Based on Louisa May Alcott's 1868–69 semi-autobiographical two-volume novel, Little Women explores the lives of the March sisters - traditional Meg, wild, aspiring writer Jo, timid Beth, and romantic Amy, - and their beloved Marmee during the American Civil War. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America. With captivating music, the story follows Jo as she pursues her dreams and challenges societal expectations. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio. The musical celebrates sisterhood, female empowerment, and the pursuit of artistic ambitions. Through poignant melodies and energetic ensemble numbers, the music enhances the storytelling. Little Women leaves a lasting impact with its memorable characters, beautiful music, and timeless message of love, family, and determination.
