Emerald City

Riverside Theatres Digital presents David Williamson’s Emerald City by Australian Theatre Live & A Griffin Theatre Company Production. The production will stream in an exclusive online Watch Party on Friday 27 August at 7:30pm, and then will be available to watch on-demand until 10pm Sunday 12 September 2021.

Fading screenwriter Colin is not long in Sydney before he’s seduced by its obsession with success. Teaming up with well-connected hack writer Mike, Colin finds himself in a tug of war between artistic ambition and big bucks. Fame and fortune – not to mention Mike’s criminally hot girlfriend – are up for grabs.

Part love letter, part hate mail to the harbour city, Emerald City is one of the best works by Australian theatre’s most beloved craftsman and commentator, David Williamson. Three decades after it was written, it still captures the ballsy spirit of the ’80s and retains its skewering sharpness – a panoramic view of the city that’s always prized beauty over brains.

The Emerald City Online Watch Party and Interactive Live Chat on Friday 27 August will also offer a behind-the-scenes insight into the making of the show, featuring a live conversation with members of the creative team: Playwright David Williamson, Director Lee Lewis and Creative Director of Australian Theatre Live, Grant Dodwell.

From Saturday 28 August at 10am to Sunday 12 September 2021 at 10pm inclusive, Emerald City will also be available to stream On Demand. During this period of time, viewers can watch as many times as they wish.
