Belvoir presents Every Brilliant Thing

This March, Belvoir will present the Sydney premiere of the world-wide smash hit, Every Brilliant Thing, starring Kate Mulvany as the solo performer in this beautiful and poignant play.  Kate is one of the nation's most talented and in-demand actors and has previously thrilled Belvoir audiences in An Enemy of the People, Jasper Jones, The Seed, and Buried Child.

Mum’s depressed – she’s lost in a place so dark she can't see any reason to live. So, her daughter starts compiling a list of every brilliant thing in life, like rollercoasters, friendly cats, staying up all night talking, and Christopher Walken’s voice. Every brilliant reason she can find to help mum stay alive.

Now it’s 20 years later and the daughter is grown up. And she’s still compiling her list. What started as a naïve way of getting through the day has become her foundation – finding magic in the mundane. The extraordinary in the everyday.

Kate Mulvany will be directed by three-time Helpmann Award winner, Kate Champion. Champion will be joined by Steve Rogers, whom she worked with on the hugely successful Food at Belvoir in 2013.  This outstanding trio will be supported by an equally notable creative team to bring Every Brilliant Thing to glorious life as theatre-in-the-round that will see a complete transformation  of the Belvoir space - for the very first time, the stage will become circular, entirely surrounded by the audience, with Kate Mulvany playing in close promximity to create a more intimate and unique Belvoir experience than ever before!

Every Brilliant Thing is a unique, tender and delightfully funny play for a solo actor, who tells her story with the help of people in the audience, providing a unique experience every night! Every Brilliant Thing is a refreshing approach to telling stories around mental health, joy, life and the lengths we will go to for those we love.

This Glass Menagerie is top shelf, and while blessed with an extraordinary cast and the highest of production values, it will not meet with everyone’s measure of how this play should be staged.
