HotHouse Theatre is delighted to announce its subscription season for 2010.
Season 2010 will showcase five shows:
Propaganda by the acclaimed local circus troupe Acrobat,
Codgers by Don Reid,
I Don’t Wanna Play House by Tammy Anderson,
The Berry Man by Patricia Cornelius and the international comedy sensation
Spontaneous Broadway.
HotHouse Artistic Director Campion Decent said, “In 2010 our Butter Factory Theatre Wodonga will become a space to laugh and dream; a space for delight, surprise and wonder; a space to refresh us amidst the clutter of daily life.”
“Physical daring, comedy, Indigenous storytelling, exquisite dramatic writing and musical mayhem will transform the theatre into a very special space,” he said.
Acrobat’s
Propaganda (11-21 March) will begin the season. Founded by Simon Yates and Jo-Ann Lancaster, Acrobat has toured its avant-garde brand of circus throughout the world but never performed locally (despite being resident in Albury). This world premiere performance was especially commissioned by HotHouse to perform at the Butter Factory before touring more broadly.
Next we will welcome back
Codgers (11-12 June) to the Albury Entertainment Centre. In 2008 this endearing comedy about Aussie mateship sold out at the Butter Factory. This limited engagement return season will feature Shane Porteous (from channel seven’s A Country Practice) alongside original cast members.
Tammy Anderson – the writer and performer of
I Don’t Wanna Play House (6-10 July) – will spin us a compelling yarn about her childhood through monologue, movement and song under the auspices of Australia’s best Indigenous theatre company, Yirra Yaakin Corporation.
Our second world premiere for the year
The Berry Man (5-14 August) is a beautiful new play from one of Australia’s leading writers, Patricia Cornelius. Earlier this year Patricia won the prestigious Richard Wherrett Prize for playwriting and this play – about a returned soldier’s need to move on and grow berries – demonstrates a writer at the peak of her powers.
Finally, it has been said that if you can’t have a good time at
Spontaneous Broadway (26-30 October) then you need a slap in the face! This musical juggernaut has garnered rave reviews across the country as every night an entirely new Broadway musical is created before your very eyes.
In 2010 HotHouse Theatre will also tour its 2009 hit
Australia! The Show! to both regional centres and capital cities, as well as the annual Small Towns Tour across North East Victoria and Southern NSW.
