Established in 1997, the auction is a significant event on the Western Australian arts calendar including works from local, national and international artists

Apart from being a wonderful occasion for the public to see some of the most exciting visual art in Western Australia, The Great Deck Chair Auction is a vital means of supporting Deckchair Theatre to continue creating high quality contemporary Australian Theatre.

Along with paintings, photographs and jewellery, the auction features an exciting array of painted deckchairs by prominent and emerging artists. Robert Juniper, Leon Perricles, John Butler and Eveline Kotai are just some of the artists who have generously donated their talent and time to raise money for the commissioning of new Australian work.

Other donations to be auctioned include signed books and memorabilia from artists including Geoffrey Rush, Eskimo Joe, Joan London, David Williamson and Robert Drewe. The Fremantle Dockers have also donated a jersey signed by all the players!

For the past 26 years, Deckchair Theatre has created over 80 new critically acclaimed works in our home city of Fremantle. We present new theatre that tells stories about our society, our environment and our heritage and reflects the world we live in today. This year Deckchair Theatre has been nominated for three Guild Awards - Best Production and Best Play for Krakouer and Best Director for Checklist for an Armed Robber.
