George Gross and Harry WattAdelaide’s internationally renowned fashion designers  lend a hand to the Adelaide premiere of RENT – the musical.
Taking time from his busy schedule Harry Watt will exclusively dress the character of Angel, a cross dressing bohemian street performer.
When asked how he went about designing a costume for an Angel, Harry said “We haven’t dressed many, but we have dressed a few drag queens, but as far as Angel is concerned, he’s not a typical drag queen, he’s unique and having seen the costumes on James, I’m very pleased. I think he’s going to do a fantastic job, in the garments but not only that, because he’s obviously a wonderful actor - and he has to be a perfect singer!”
James Christopher Reed who plays Angel said “Harry has created some of the most amazing costumes I have ever had the privilege to wear. I love the sequins and patterned fabrics he’s chosen and I’m left feeling confident that fans of the show and people new to RENT will love the subtle twist on Angel’s iconic outfits. I feel like a Queen!”
RENT is a joyous celebration of life. It is a fresh yet turbulent musical that explores the lives of a community of young New Yorkers as they struggle with the tough realities of today.
Angel is a character full of life and someone with whom the audience will instantly fall in love. Angel is living with HIV/AIDS and stands by is credo “No day but today”
To bring this breath-taking musical to Adelaide, Catchy Title productions have joined forces with the Aids Council of SA to help promote HIV/AIDS awareness and raise funds for the Bobby Goldsmith Red Ribbon Foundation, assisting people living with HIV/AIDS. As part of the fundraising efforts ACSA will be raffling off Angel’s amazing “Santa” jacket as worn by James in the show.
Not only will Adelaide audiences get to experience the show that dazzled Broadway for over 12 years, they could also end up going home with unique jacket from the Harry Who label.
Internationally acclaimed choreographer Leigh Warren and musical director Matthew Carey, join producer/director, Scott Nell to bring RENT to Adelaide. With a stellar team behind the scenes and a young, contemporary and talented cast on stage, Adelaide audiences will be scrabbling to see what is considered the greatest rock musical of modern times.
