The Chair of La Boite Theatre Company, Kent Maddock, has announced that after nearly eight outstanding years as the Artistic Director of the Company, Sean Mee has decided to step down from the position.

Kent said: “Sean believes it is time to introduce new creative and artistic energy to the Company.
Sean has presided over the most significant period of change in the company’s history with every aspect of the company changing since his appointment in October 2000. It has grown significantly in those years and Sean has been instrumental in guiding the company through this time with passion and dedication to the creative agenda, to the Queensland theatre community and to the staff.

His tenacious drive to raise the profile of the Company both nationally and internationally has certainly been achieved with productions such as the co-production of Johnno performed at the 2006 Brisbane Festival and in the UK in 2007 and The Narcissist, being performed later this year as part of Sydney Theatre Company’s subscription season.

As CEO of the Company for the last 18 months, Sean has been committed to assisting the board in the strategic direction of the Company and the Roundhouse Theatre venue. He has provided invaluable experience and stability in a climate of change in the funding and political landscape. His wealth of knowledge and insight has been crucial to ensuring the best possible opportunities for future success for La Boite Theatre Company.”

Kent said that the board, management and staff of La Boite congratulate Sean on his achievements with the company and wish him well for the next step in his career. “We will miss his honesty, his enthusiasm and his love for this organisation.”

Sean and the Board have agreed on a timeline for succession. A national search now begins for a suitable candidate for the role of Artistic Director / CEO. The Company will be seeking to appoint the new Artistic Director / CEO in August. Expressions of interest from applicants will be sought at the beginning of June.
