BellingenThe Bellingen Global Carnival hosts the finest local and international acts in celebration of contemporary Australia’s cultural diversity. Dubbed the ‘home-grown Womad’; Bellingen allows the audience to have intimate encounters with music, performance, arts, crafts, cuisine and cultural issues throughout three magical days.

Held against a stunning subtropical setting, half an hour west of Coffs Harbour, it’s no surprise that the Bellingen Global Carnival has a tribe of dedicated followers from Tasmania to Adelaide to the beaches for far north Queensland as well as a growing international following!

12 year’s since its inception, the Bellingen Global Carnival is experiencing a time of great renewal. Having grown by 15% per annum to become a whopping 5-stage 250-performer festival in 2005; the Global Carnival took a break in 2006 following the passing of key festival friends co-founder John Richards and local elder Neville Buchanan. Thanks to the brave face forward of Carnival director Bryony Taylor, Bellingen is back in 2007! Global Carnivals Australia was founded by Bryony Taylor and John Richards in 1995 as a not-for-profit public company with the mission of ‘engendering an appreciation of Australia's cultural diversity through the performing arts’.

In honor of these two special people now gone, the Bellingen Global Carnival 2007 will feature a special tribute event themed on ‘the wheel of life.’ This will be in addition to the annual, sumptuous selection of carnival treats including performances, lantern shows, workshops, forums, markets, arts & crafts as well as the ever-popular children’s program and festival-bar stocked with local organic wines.

Up to 250 volunteering positions are now open with help needed before, during and after the festival.  Volunteers receive a full weekend pass, free camping, a Global Carnival Crew T-Shirt, midday meals each day they work and access to the crew tea-room, not to mention the community spirit of being part of the behind-the-scenes.
