Griffin Theatre Company continues to shine a light on new Australian plays with Griffin Searchlight, a week of staged readings presented by independent theatre companies, running from 28 May to 2 June.
In 2007, the searchlight shines on new works by five acclaimed playwrights including Verity Laughton (Burning), Caleb Lewis (Nailed), John Romeril (The Floating World) Melita Rowston (Solitude in Blue) and William Zappa (Winter's Discontent).
Griffin artistic director Nick Marchand said Searchlight assists in discovering engaging work and artists that might be suitable for further development either by the company itself or as a part of Griffin Stablemates, their annual season of independent theatre productions.
For artists, it's a way of testing out work or ideas for work in front of an audience of theatre lovers. For audiences, it's an opportunity to be the first to see new works for the stage from both emerging and experienced playwrights.
“In 2007, Griffin Searchlight offers a vibrant mix of youth and experience – and I know audiences will leap at the chance to experience new works from these acclaimed Australian playwrights,” he said. “With a line-up of artists including John Romeril and Verity Laughton, Griffin continues to shine a light on the best of new Australian writing.”
Griffin Searchlight will take place on the following nights:

Tuesday 29 May
