A New Era in Musical Theatre

“This is the first opportunity to become one of the very first ever subscribers, to the first ever season,“ said Peter Cousens, CEO and Artistic Director of Kookaburra“Three shows written by arguably the very best musical composers of our time, our productions are created using Australian resources and all Australian talent.”

Pippin by Stephen Schwartz and Roger Hirst will play at the Sydney Theatre from April 10 for a limited five week season.  Pippin is a magical, dance driven musical about a young man searching for happiness. Directed and Choreographed by Ross Coleman and introducing Matthew Robinson as Pippin with Trisha Noble and Sharon Millerchip.

The witty and sophisticated Company by Stephen Sondheim and George Firth will be directed by Gale Edwards and stars David Campbell in the role of Bobby. Company will play the Theatre Royal from June 26 for a limited five week season. You will be in hysterics as you watch the all too familiar crazy antics of five married couples, determined to convince Bobby that to be married is the only way to live a satisfying life.

Floyd Collins by Adam Guettel and Tina Landau is a relatively new piece of writing.  Based on a true story, it’s a thrilling and deeply inspirational tale of blind faith against all the odds. Floyd Collins will star Peter Cousens and be directed by Kate Gaul and will play the Sydney Theatre from November 6 for a limited five week season. “Kookaburra has taken flight. Come on board and subscribe. Enjoy three wonderful musicals, and feel the thrill and satisfaction of being part of this wonderful new era in musical theatre,” added Mr Cousens.

Kookaburra, Australia's first and only National Musical Theatre Company, was launched in April with a star-studded sell-out concert.  Kookaburra’s goal is to be a world leading producer, developer and advocate of musical theatre, and to affirm musical theatre's central role in the cultural and social life of Australia.
