The Savoyards is a clever pastiche that weaves together the beloved music of Sullivan and Gilbert’s vibrant characters from ten of the fourteen classic Gilbert & Sullivan operas. Created by Dawn Pugh and Nicole Taylor, this fresh, extended one-act operetta, offers a playful homage infused with sharp satire and an irresistible new storyline. It explores the delightfully tangled secrets and eccentric desires of a troupe of thespians, lovingly capturing the spirit and mischief of the Savoy tradition, and revealing that life often imitates art! The Gospel According to Paul is meticulously crafted entertainment. It’s uplifting without pulling any punches.
While Bonachela’s work is, as always, dreamily lovely, for me the highlights were absolutely the three commissioned choreographers: Azzam Mohamed, Jenni Large and Raghav Handa.
