

For Sir Terry Pratchett fans the play is laugh-out-loud funny, incessantly pleasurable, and totally memorable. With its likeable mixture of satire and humanity, the production is engaging, active and smart, if a tad congested. Yet as a ludicrous romp it's difficult not to enjoy.

Footprints on Water is a claustrophobic play. Set in a small town that people seem cursed to live in and cursed to never leave, it is a dark, ominous, and sometimes blackly funny look at religion, hysteria, hypocrisy, cruelty, identity, racism, beginnings, ends, and the apocalypse.


Once you settle into the extreme cosiness of The Owl & The Pussycat theatre and get the hang of what's happening on that tiny stage, your curiosity is piqued. The ending is inventive, a little haunting and yet leaves you with a sad smile on your face.


Underground is designed to provide a really good night out, and it achieves that wholeheartedly. It is joyful, fun and invigorating, true escapism capped off with a whole lot of glitter and confetti. Underground is a definite must see in this year's Brisbane Festival.
