Don't Get Carried Away by Roy Barker at The Butterfly Club

June 10-14 at The Butterfly Club, Don't Get Carried Away by Roy barker debuts before touring. Get tickets at Eventbrite or thebutterflyclub.com.

From the time he danced out of his mother’s womb, Roy Barker wanted to be a performer. But life, and bullies, kept getting in the way. Growing up in a brutally tough neighbourhood, Roy survived broken bones, cuts and bruises, by learning how to be invisible—not ideal when you want to be a star. In Roy’s debut solo show, he takes you on a whirlwind ride through the comedic highs and moving lows of following his dream.

From Shakespeare to rap, and everything in between, Roy discovers at the age of 50 that it’s never too late to get carried away.

The script is based on a true story, although this dramatisation can feel somewhat contrived, with important assertions not interrogated, and credibility stretched as a result.

Capturing the essence of its predecessor, Heathers The Musical is an absurdly comic production that doesn’t just walk the line of polite society but plans to blow it all up with reckless abandon.

This Glass Menagerie is top shelf, and while blessed with an extraordinary cast and the highest of production values, it will not meet with everyone’s measure of how this play should be staged.
