Exiles by James Joyce

The centrepiece of our Bloomsday in Melbourne Festival in
2023, Exiles (1918) is James Joyce’s only play. A darkly funny,
gripping psychological drama, it explores the question key to his
masterpiece, Ulysses (1922): what is love? With its surprisingly
modern take on polyamory and its dark side, jealousy (with
undertones of same-sex desire), Exiles is a rare dramatic gem that
must not be missed in its Victorian premiere. Recently remounted
in the West End and on Broadway, it was widely praised for its
contemporary themes and exploration of love and sex.
