Sentient Theatre’s production of A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf Adapted for the stage and Directed by Peta Hanrahan Following a sold-out premiere season, Peta Hanrahan's stage adaptation of Virginia Woolf's classic essay returns. Breathing new life into the history of women and literature, A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf features four performers as aspects of Woolf’s mind in conversation with herself, and the audience.
Based on a series of lectures that gently interrogates the history of women and fiction, this much-lauded production carries striking relevance to current conversations about gender disparity. Today, with campaigns such as Me Too, Time’s Up and NOW Australia, A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf shines a light on our history with astounding pertinence to contemporary society. Sentient Theatre is a new collective of contemporary theatre practitioners with the goal of bringing important humanitarian narratives to the stage. Their inaugural piece, A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf, premiered at La Mama Courthouse in 2016 to overwhelmingly positive responses, igniting a desire to continue sharing this important story.
