| |
Adelaide is one of 64 cities worldwide – and the only Australian city – designated as a UNESCO City of Music. When a choir from Hannover, another UNESCO City of Music, announced an Australian tour, the City Council invited Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus to perform with them in a concert in the Adelaide Town Hall. This is the third in a series of events under the auspices of UNESCO and the Adelaide City Council to celebrate Adelaide's status as a UNESCO City of Music. Two choirs, two countries, one inspiring concert! Come with us on a musical journey that celebrates the sacred and the poetic. Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, conducted by Aldis Sils, will perform the expressive and dramatic Lamentations of Jeremiahby Randall Stroope, as well as a collection of songs from Ola Gjeilo, John Rutter and Eric Whitacre. Melodically complex, these pieces give expression to love, friendship and poetry. Capella St Crucis Hannover, conducted by Florian Lohmann, will perform an a cappella program for Passiontide, sacred choral musicfrom Baroque, via Romantic to Contemporary through the music of Bach, Mendelssohn, Reger and MacMillan. These deeply devotional motets were chosen for their reflection of the motto Media Vita(In the midst of life), the interweaving of life and death, and celebration of the divine. The choirs combine to perform two pieces – Ešenvalds’ My Songand Rheinberger’s Abendlied – in an uplifting finale.
