What's On

Are you sick of the mundane and ready for a change? Is life going around like a hamster on a wheel? Stuck in a boring office job? Wanna snap out of it and get the hell outta here? Melbourne female drag queen JEN DER feels you. Since coming out “bio” last year life has been a hazy shade of neutral for JEN DER and she’s ready to turn it technicolour in her brand new show, JEN DER Unpacks for Midsumma 2019 at Hares and Hyenas.

With a mind as busy as JFK airport JEN DER is ready to leave Melbourne, her destiny is waiting. Will  she  leave the dusty plains of Albury Wodonga and land in New York to set up her dream Cabaret Bar with her Cuban hip shaking Prince? Or buy a miniature house on wheels and drive around America? What about Trump though? Maybe she’ll end up in a run down share house in downtown LA and just stare at a wall? Or will she stay in Australia, marry a toxic male boofhead and settle down in regional NSW? JEN DER is overwhelmed, lost in a crisis of choice and stuck in the departure gate of decision.

In order to get out, JEN DER needs to go within, unpack before she packs up - otherwise her emotional baggage is going to cost her a fortune at check in. So she’s cranking up the salt lamps, cutting the energy cords, healing her chakras and syncing up with the moon cycles. JEN DER is ready to raise the vibration and raise the roof by wrapping her amazing warped lips around a killer pop, hip hop and rock soundtrack as she unpacks everything from gender norms, to female drag queen realness, to unrealistic expectations, to country blokes to how terrifying the world is and ultimately - how to truly step into your power, with arms open to the unknown.

JEN DER (Kat Mroz) is one of Melbourne’s up and coming female drag performers, seen at Midsumma Festival, Honcho Disko, Drag-A-Thon, Killjoy at Melbourne Fringe Festival and parties like Max Freak and Royale Variety - House of Love Bar. In March 2017, JEN DER was featured in Marie Claire Australia Magazine which highlighted Australian women in the drag scene. Kat Mroz is a Melbourne based performer, dancer and writer who oozes jaw dropping physicality and dazzling wit.
