Waiting On You

TITLE: Waiting On You

Playwright: Gabrielle Pearson

Season Dates: 1st - 3rd of November 2018

Summary:

After moving abroad to a fast paced city and getting her first job in a cocktail bar, Georgi must learn to keep up with the hard and fast lifestyle of the underground hospitality industry. New to the world of waiting tables and warped rules, Georgi quickly falls head over heels for the thrill of the 'big smoke' lifestyle... amongst other things.

Gabrielle Pearson's original piece shines light on confronting realities in our culture that are current yet still seen as taboo. The piece is unapologetic, raw, witty and written in a contemporary style with an international flavour. It is a story of corruption and destruction but at it's core, a story of love, friendship and finding strength in letting go.

Synopsis:

Waiting On You follows the story of Georgi, a 20-something year old woman who moves to a fast paced city abroad and starts working in a cocktail bar.

After becoming infatuated with her Manager, Georgi is quickly lured into a world of lust, and discovers how far she will go for an unrequited and obsessive love. The people who work in this bar are unique yet somewhat stereotypical to the culture that they are surrounded in. With the bundle of joy and perfectionist bartender, the hopeless bar-back, the temperamental Manager, the party goer owner and the eccentric best friend, Georgi's fate is easily swayed by her relationships.

Waiting On You is an incredibly raw and relatable piece, touching on how young people working within this industry can at times feel the pressure to keep up with the hard and fast way of life; to essentially 'keep swimming’. Throughout Georgi's story we are shown that, in some cases, if we continuously try to keep up with the rest of the crazy world, we will unfortunately and inevitably end up drowning.

The audience will experience a fast-paced and confronting performance, which is emotionally charged by a talented, local music composer, Emily Dynes, who is visibly elevated at the back of the stage. Emily is presented as a live DJ who composes an original score and performs a live set throughout the entire production.

Waiting On You is written, directed and produced by Melbourne's local, Gabrielle Pearson. The play is debuting with an all Melbourne cast and production team, breaking creative boundaries and bringing awareness to day to day issues that are very much an uncomfortable reality in our society - with absolutely no promises of sugar-coating.
