What's On

Miley, Moon Unit & Me

Original cabaret tribute to cool dads and their musical influence returns to the Butterfly Club for the Melbourne Cabaret Fringe Festival.

From Frank Zappa to Billy Ray Cyrus, Amy Winehouse to Eva Cassidy, dads and daughters in the spotlight have long been the subject of scrutiny and celebration - and are responsible for their fair share of dad jokes.

Recently returned from New Zealand Fringe Festival in Wellington NZ, actor and vocalist Tegan Jones brings Miley, Moon Unit & Me back to The Butterfly Club as part of the Melbourne Cabaret Fringe Festival. She takes audiences on a journey of the relationships between fathers and their daughters, focusing on female vocalists and the fathers who inspired them to sing. It’s an hour of non-stop hits from the likes of Frank Zappa, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Ray Cyrus, Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse, Eva Cassidy, Neil Diamond, Demi Lovato and many more.

Tegan intertwines her own stories about her father’s influence on her musical journey with those of famous singers. Some stories will surprise you, some will make you cringe in recognition and most of them will make you want to hug your father really, really tightly.

Miley, Moon Unit & Me is a heart-warming, entertaining and thoroughly unique show, featuring the foot-tapping “Cool Dad Medley”, a marathon effort of 29 songs squeezed into seven minutes.

Praise for Miley, Moon Unit & Me

“Jones cleverly demonstrates the endless possibilities of musical theatre and the capacity to create something genuinely fresh and new.” Theatreview, NZ

“The range of genres and artists Jones is able to represent with her vast vocal range and beautiful resonance leaves us with a further appreciation for the hour spent here in this space.” Art Murmurs, NZ

“When she channels Ella Fitzgerald, she hits her straps – and it’s no mere mimicry. Overall, the show is so direct, so natural and unforced, that a bond forms between Ms Jones and the audience, via the music, rather like the bond between Tegan and her Dad.” Stage Whispers
