"There's a Place I know..."

“There’s a place I know…”

 May 23rd-May27th

There’s a place I know. A place that is hidden. A secret place that only I know.

“There’s a place I know…” is a comical walking performance, across the streets and back lanes of Melbourne’s oldest suburb Fitzroy. However this is not your typical tour where the audience is bombarded by facts of conquering statues of old men. Led by the enigmatic Eben Rojter, this is his personal historical tour of Fitzroy, recounting tales as being over charged for a pint of beer, legends of the dodgy kebab, the day the Hipsters moved in and introduced Kale and Quinoa Smoothies, all the while seeking revenge against those who have wronged him in his recent past.

The audience begins the night at the infamous crumbling buildings of 95 Victoria St.  There they are led to various locations around the Brunswick St Precinct, such as the iconic “My Beautiful Laundrette”, the seedy back alleys of Gertrude St and that “secret shop” that only that local knows.

A group devised ensemble project, “There’s a place I know…” examines the way humans have become accustomed to creating walls, blocking out our immediate surroundings. The most recognisable symbol is the use of headphones. Ushered through the streets, the audience is given a set of headphones at the first meeting point. Roaming between locations, the soundscape is the exact noises we try to block out.

Directed by Eleven Arms Theatre Company’s Renee Palmer, “There’s a place I know…” is an original new Australian work that reinvents the tired old walking tour
