Last King of Vaudeville

If KISS and the Circus had a baby, it would be THIS show!

Former circus rock star of Papillion and Pants Down Circus lead funny man Idris Stanton returns to Perth, with his whirlwind one-man psycho circus and stand-up comedy show the ‘Last King of Vaudeville’. Paying homage to the vaudevillian kings and variety artist of days gone by in a non-stop, 55 minute show at the Pleasure Garden.

The last king of Vaudeville is an entertaining journey through the glory days gone by, where noble vaudevillian artists were superstars. Idris pay tribute, whilst reinventing the routines that made variety artists kings in their time. This is a one man tribute to the classic vaudeville layout, blended with Stanton’s own modern style of observational comedy.

This is more than a tribute show. Idris pokes fun at current political issues, Gen X, Y and Z, and reminds us of the joys of watching live entertainment; in particular sideshow and circus.

Idris Stanton is a former circus clown and co-founder of Pants Down Circus which toured across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America with their show ‘ROCK!’ Also a member of the Circus Firemen, a street performing duo that has toured across 5 continents. Stanton has teamed up with Circus producing veterans AfterDark Theatre, who have produced a number of award winning shows including ‘BARBAROI’, ‘Element of Consequence’ and The Boardwalk Republic, the original Southside hub for the Melbourne Fringe.

Idris Stanton wanted to create a show to pay homage to the classic vaudeville art form, which inspired him to join the circus, and wanted to show how Vaudeville has changed.  “Vaudeville is still very much alive today, in shows like Australia’s got talent, where industry professionals compete against 12yr girls who can sing…”
