| Blue Surge | Winterfall Theatre | |||
What happens when you delve into the small space that can divide a feeling of hope from one of hopelessness? Rebecca Gilman’s Blue Surge is an intimate examination of class struggle in America today. Curt is a small time cop in Midwestern America; Sandy is the nineteen year old prostitute he tries to arrest, then attempts to help. Curt comes from poor circumstances, he’s an honest guy, doing the best he can, with a few small dreams. Sandy comes from a difficult background, she’s a pragmatic newcomer to the world of prostitution, and Curt sees a better life, full of potential for her. Watch what happens when both Curt and Sandy try to get a foothold into the American Dream. Gilman is well known for her cutting edge social commentary. Her works include Spinning Into Butter, the Pulitzer Prize finalist The Glory of Living and Boy Gets Girl. What the Critics are saying about Winterfall… “A finely chiselled performance…The acting is certainly of a high standard…” The Age “This is Masterful Theatre. Nothing is lacking…well worth seeing.” Australian Stage On Line “Winterfall is getting increasing attention for small scale, high quality productions.” Arts Hub
