I am glad that I googled the term “loosey goosey” and came up with the following definition – “imprecise, disorganized, or excessively relaxed” which is a joke that Rove is indeed playing on us the audience, in the nicest way possible.
Rove is so far away from being imprecise and disorganized as to be ridiculous. He is the epitome of well-rehearsed and witty word play. And as for the “excessively relaxed” part of the definition that is something he manages supremely. Every word he utters seems off the cuff, a spontaneous thought that just occurred to him. That of course is part of his charm and the charm offensive never lets up. Rove gave us well over an hour of his close attention.
Rove grew up in Perth and was an early occupant of the Crying Room at the Regal Theatre where mothers “parked” their babies in prams while they enjoyed a film. Only to be interrupted if the baby cried and they were paged to the Crying Room.
Barely drawing breath Rove rambled through his wife’s arachnophobia, his personal dislike of cockroaches and massages. The current trend of recycling took us to the concept of reusable toilet paper and thence to a terrific scenario at the pharmacy where the brutal Lord Pharmacist reigns supreme.
Rove managed to weave in thoughts on dinosaurs, people who won’t let one finish a story (interrupters) and the lavishness of children’s parties nowadays. Appealing to pet lovers in the audience he took us through the intricacies of puppy preschool and the consequences of failing the final test. It was a fantastic performance which drew spontaneous applause throughout the show.
The finale was an exceptional exercise in bringing together references to many different topics covered in the show in a breathtaking rant.
Simply brilliant stuff!
