Effie is looking for love, and times are tough. She has been through a lot, even had a baby girl (via the divinity of Immaculate Conception) and still cannot seem to find the man of her dreams. According to Effie, this means young and very attractive, with buckets of cash money. Discussing real estate is the epitome of foreplay for her.
After an adorable montage of imagery of Effie with her daughter, who is dressed exactly like her, on walks the character that is still going strong since the early 1990s. She is stunning with her higher than high “hairs,” looking great, and captivating a very excited audience that lapped up every bit of it. She is a beaming ray of wog light.
Effie delves into her dating experiences with men of all different cultures and nationalities, poking particular fun at the Greeks, which many in the audience could relate to (a little too much perhaps). She also has a playful dig at her experiences with Indian men, Germans, Italians, Aussies (“skips”) and kiwis. No one was safe.
And then the house lights came up. Effie interrogated every man she could find, sussing out their marital status and investment in property (male audiences beware!). Unfortunately for Effie on this night she had little success as most of the men were not interested in her type (namely that she was a “her”). Nonetheless, she brought a selection of her favourites on stage in order to single out “the one,” to which she sang to, in the ultimate attempt at seduction.
Mary Coustas’ comedic delivery was very well rehearsed, appropriately paced, and very engaging. It is clear that she has done this many times before and is very confident in herself. Even when bouncing off crowd responses, which is always a difficult task, she had perfect responses.
The most beautiful woman in the world, Effie, hit it on the head and gave everything the audience wanted. She is a rock star, which she displayed in her very fashion-forward music videos. The night is short, sweet, and fun, and regardless of your gender you could even end up on a date with Effie (she is keeping her options open).
