Lady Cordelia Winterbottom (Isabel Hertaeg) is a master of etiquette, as are all women with the surname bottom or butt, as she advises us sagely in her one women show, The Etiquette Hour. Lady C, as she sometimes calls herself, is here to change the ladies of the audience from caterpillars into beautiful butterflies. Hertaeg’s performance is punctuated with unexpected outbursts of song and lashings of common sense etiquette drawn from a wide variety of real books that she uses as props on the stage, and a little bit of audience interaction is thrown into the mix, to make sure the audience stays involved. However The Etiquette Hour is a little loose in structure and Hertaeg is not always strong enough to keep the show moving in the right direction. This is a show that could benefit from some tighter direction and focus on the structure.
The show is at its best during the songs as Hertaeg has a wonderful strong, powerful voice. As a performer Lady C knows how to hit the right notes, it’s the business in between that needs the attention.
Overall though Hertaeg is enthusiastic and a performer to watch as she develops.
