Jett Rogers – Rock 'n' Roll Detective, is a combination of Buck Rogers and Ford Fairlane. If neither of those names means anything to you then some of Jett Rogers may pass you by, but nevertheless there is much fun to be had with this shambolic show. Jett Rogers (Ged Cogley) is a drunken detective whose life is a shambles, with his former life as a popstar well behind him he now takes on crummy cases for a living. When a tall leggy blonde, one Barbara Geldolf (Jamie McCarney who plays this and every other role in the show) enters his life, Jett Rogers’ life is turned upside down.
Filled with corny jokes, some inspired bits of stage business, copious lighting changes and musical cues, Jett Rogers could have been a flaming disaster, but thanks to some funny performances and an excellent lighting/sound operator, the show is controlled chaos: lunacy at its best. The character of Galactico is particularly inspired in his humour and low-fi Dalek meets a Luchedor outfit.
At times Jett Rogers, the character is a bit one note, but these two performers clearly enjoy the show they’ve created and as a result so do the audience.
A production with performers that will grow as the season progresses and so worth checking out.
