The Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) today announced the addition of seven key people to bolster its leadership team.

Chairman Ian McRae announced the appointments of Janet Holmes à Court (Perth-based business woman and arts leader) and Lyndon Terracini (Brisbane-based performer and Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the Brisbane Festival) to ANAM’s national Board of Directors.

“Both Janet and Lyndon bring great leadership experience and an immense passion for the performing arts to compliment the skills of our current Board. I am looking forward to working with them as we build ANAM into one of the world’s leading training organizations for the finest classical music performers”.

Artistic Director Brett Dean also announced two new appointments to ANAM’s teaching Faculty: pianist Michael Kieran Harvey and violinist Paul Wright. “Michael is well known to Australian musicians and audiences as one of the busiest and most challenging performers. Paul Wright, who we have enticed across from the University of Western Australia, is one of the country’s finest violin pedagogues. A graduate of the Yehudi Menuhin School, he has immense performance and teaching experience across a broad repertoire, from the 17th to the 21st century. The breadth of imagination and experience which both these musicians bring to the Academy will bolster my vision of ANAM as a place from which the country’s future musical leaders will emerge”.

General Manager Nick Bailey has announced three new appointments to the administrative team: Matthew Hoy (Program Manager), David Harrod (Operations and Facilities Manager) and Lisa Mitchell (Communications Manager). “These appointments represent a significant injection of experience and energy into the organisation’s small administrative team”, Mr Bailey said.

Matthew Hoy was a cellist with the W.A. Symphony Orchestra and artistic director of the fine music series at the Fremantle Arts Centre following the completion of his studies at the Manhattan School of Music. David Harrod has held positions with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Victorian Opera, Victorian Arts Centre, and most recently with the Melbourne Recital Centre. Lisa Mitchell has held the position of Director of Marketing and Development with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Manager of Marketing Communications for ABC On-Line, and positions with Victorian Opera, Company-B and the Queensland Theatre Company.

“Matthew, David and Lisa each bring a strong understanding of the professional performance environment to the Academy” Mr Bailey added. “This is crucial for ANAM as we prepare our students for life as professional musicians, and build meaningful relationships with the country’s orchestral sector”.

Ian McRae added “We believe that we have the strongest possible team in place to enable the Faculty of the Academy the space in which to prepare their young musicians to meet the challenges and grasp the opportunities that lie before them”.
